Sparse LBL PDF Print E-mail

sparselblarrayDeployment of long baseline (LBL) transponder arrays can consume a large percentage of the time required for a subsea marine construction surveys. This time is a major operational expense for the end client. Reducing the number of seabed transponders deployed can dramatically decrease the client’s costs through savings in ROV and vessel time used for the survey. One simple example over a 30 days period for suction pile installations identifies a savings of over $1,000,000 when sparse LBL is compared to LBL. (see attached presentation).

By using our C-PINS inertial navigation solution along with industry standard transponders and ROV mounted transceivers survey productivity can be significantly increased. The C-PINS system is an extremely accurate inertial navigation system which optimally works with just 2 LBL transponders in range. This solution not only increases efficiency but deals with simultaneous operations (sim-ops) issues as well. C-PINS needs updates from just these 2 transponders once every 5 seconds to reliably deliver the same precise navigational data as a large LBL array. Imagine cutting survey project time in half! The cost benefits are soon realized and will rapidly become a requirement in this fast paced industry.
